The Nosside Prize in 2020 have been experiencing the most difficult year in its history. A period dominated by the terrible CoronaVirus, which is still upsetting the lives of the peoples of the entire planet. The 35th Edition started on February 14th in Cuba with the pleasant First Event at the Havana International Book Fair. Then the pandemic hit our Mother Earth.
The Nosside faced it with lucid firmness, like the reed does with the wind: it adapted but it did not break. And it surpassed itself, enhancing the uniqueness of its global project that has been creating bridges and breaking down walls since 1983. It has renewed its communication tools via the Internet. It has increased membership, consolidating its mission of promoting all the languages of the world and the exchange of cultures, traditions and experiences that they represent. And it has reached the historic goal of 100 participating countries.
The evaluations of the International Jury chaired by prof. Giuseppe Amoroso underlined the coherence of the Award with its mission. This consistency is demonstrated by the two Overall Winners: the Italian Stefano Baldinu with a poem in Nuorese Sardinian and the Mexican Francisco Azuela with a composition dedicated to a people originally from pre-Columbian America. It is also proved by the acknowledgments to the poetic imagination of many parts of the planet - from the Andes to the Aspromonte and to the Himalayas, from the Mediterranean sea to the Caribbean, from the Argentine pampas to the plains of Canada and the steppes of Mongolia - in a whirlwind of languages and dialects . The awarded lyric poetries are included in this Anthology «Nosside 2020», published by Media & Books in Rome.
The Nosside has finally reinvented the Final Event, replacing the charm of the splendid Archaeological Museum of the Bronzes of Reggio with an evocative video broadcast on November 27th via the Internet on major world social networks.
It was a flattering result for the idea born on the Reggio shore of the mythical Strait of Scilla and Cariddi, which has been captivating poets and artists for millennia. An idea that is identified with the Magna Graecia poetess of the third century. B.C. Nosside from Locri, is represented by the magnificent image of the futurist Umberto Boccioni of Reggio Calabria and is flanked by the excellent art of the goldsmith Gerardo Sacco from Crotone.
Basically, even in the time of the CoronaVirus, Nosside has moved in the wake of its history, reinvigorating the dream of a world without borders of languages and cultures, without religious, ideological and ethnic prejudices. A dream hinged on a few cornerstones: a unique and original project; a strategic plan pursued with limited resources, but with clarity, consistency and perseverance.
